We believe that children learn and grow with each new experience. Our program of activities is designed to expose children to a variety of developmentally appropriate experiences. Each child approaches the activities in an individual way based on their personality and level of maturity. In doing so, they build the skills they need to be a productive learner and successful human being!
Pentucket Workshop Preschool, entering its 48th year of serving the greater Georgetown community, has made the decision to press “pause” and remain closed for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. While this was an extremely difficult decision, we are confident that it is the right decision with respect to concerns around COVID 19. We contemplated best practices for safety, the impact on families and staff members, the economic feasibility, the community, the overall uncertainty as well as how to remain true to the Pentucket model.
Our number one priority is keeping everyone safe and healthy. Our commitment to our families is just as strong as their commitment is to the School. Pentucket Workshop is not the typical pre-school. We are proud of the lasting, trusting relationships we have built with our families and we remain true to that.
The new reopening guidelines established by EEC impose major challenges for a program as unique in design as Pentucket Workshop and impact our ability to provide our students with valued educational and social experiences, rooted in our open classroom philosophy and team-teaching approach to learning. The new guidelines limit group size and group interactions, which would greatly change the look and feel of the Pentucket model. Additionally, the new guidelines greatly limit the number of students we can serve, which will be very challenging for us as a not-for-profit organization.
In an effort to emerge from this uncertain and challenging time whole, and with the intention of reopening in 2021-2022, it is best to press pause and re-evaluate as the year progresses. This is an interruption, not an end, to our presence and service in the community. We hold on to the hope of seeing familiar faces and families after this pause. Our philosophy centers on the belief that the biggest gift you can give a child is the gift of time. Time to grow, time to develop and time to learn. We need the gift of time to emerge from uncertainty. Our doors may be closed this September, but our hearts are open to a new beginning in 2021.
